Setup & key ideas
Also called hip-wedge triangle escape
Before you start
- Their legs already surround your head and one arm, but the trapped arm is still beside their hip and can form the demonstrated wedge.
Key ideas
- Keep the trapped arm beside the hip instead of allowing it to be pulled across your neck.
- Walk toward the side of the posted hand, then use the free arm to wrap and hug the knee.
- Keep their hips from returning underneath your neck while framing at the hip and clearing your head.
Common pitfalls
- Confusing this specific arm-beside-hip configuration with a fully tightened triangle after the arm has crossed.
- Assuming that clearing the head automatically completes a guard pass.
- Holding through a choke to force the movement; tap and reset when the required space and control are gone.
