Setup & key ideas
Also called kung fu butterfly pass · punch pull kick pass
Before you start
- A seated butterfly guard with access to the lapel and opposite knee; their feet are not framing on your hips.
Key ideas
- Connect one hand to the lapel and the other to the opposite knee.
- Coordinate the collar push, knee pull and backward leg kick to turn them and clear the hook.
- Use the retained grips to close the distance, bring your knees beside the body and settle the upper-body pin.
Common pitfalls
- Trying the same movement after their feet frame on your hips.
- Stopping outside the legs while leaving enough distance for them to recover guard.
Connections Reactions and next steps
Where this can lead
- Side control · In control
The hook clears, you draw yourself past both legs, and your knees and upper-body control close the distance into the pin.
