Setup & key ideas
Before you start
- Enough inside space to bring your far arm into an underhook.
- Your near elbow can support your turn without leaving the arm extended.
Key ideas
- Make room for the underhook before turning.
- Turn onto your elbow while keeping the underhook attached around their hip.
- Come to your knees and continue toward guard recovery or standing rather than waiting underneath.
Common pitfalls
- Trying to turn while your upper body remains tightly controlled.
- Pausing with your back exposed after reaching your knees.
- Reaching turtle is an intermediate result, not a completed escape from all control.
