Setup & key ideas

Also called knee elbow escape · shrimp from mount

Before you start

  • One forearm can block the far hip while the other elbow works inside their knee.
  • The targeted foot can be exposed rather than remaining tucked underneath you.

Key ideas

  • Keep the far hip blocked while making room beside the near knee.
  • Move your knee past their ankle line, then use your opposite heel to bring their foot between your legs.
  • Keep your frames as you move onto the other side and consolidate half guard.

Common pitfalls

  • Leaving the far hip free as you turn.
  • Trying to capture a foot that is still hidden underneath you.
  • Stopping immediately after trapping the leg instead of settling your guard.

They close the knee gap and commit their weight

A posting arm and the same-side base must be controlled; do not roll simply because the knee gap closed.
