Setup & key ideas
Before you start
- The opponent is standing in front of your open guard and a heel connection is available.
- The tripod hook configuration must be established; the tomahawk version uses different body and leg positions.
Key ideas
- Connect to the heel before trying to remove their base.
- Coordinate the push against their body with blocks on both legs.
- A useful endpoint includes following onto top, beyond the initial loss of balance.
Common pitfalls
- Mixing the tripod and tomahawk hook configurations as if they were the same variation.
