Setup & key ideas

Also called leg lasso grip break · lasso knee wedge

Before you start

  • You are standing in a balanced base inside an established lasso and spider-guard grip, with the lasso foot behind your upper arm.

Key ideas

  • Bring your elbows toward your body as far as the lasso allows.
  • Place the knee near the end of their lasso foot to move that leg and release the sleeve grip.
  • Circle the freed arm inside and address their remaining leg control before attempting a pass.

Common pitfalls

  • Balancing on one knee while their sleeve and leg controls remain.
  • Treating the broken sleeve grip as a finished guard pass.

Where this can lead

  • Open guard · Passing guard

The lasso-side sleeve grip breaks and the arm circles free; the other leg and remaining grips still need to be cleared.
