Setup & key ideas

Also called kung fu butterfly pass · punch pull kick pass

Before you start

  • A seated butterfly guard with access to the lapel and opposite knee; their feet are not framing on your hips.

Key ideas

  • Connect one hand to the lapel and the other to the opposite knee.
  • Coordinate the collar push, knee pull and backward leg kick to turn them and clear the hook.
  • Use the retained grips to close the distance, bring your knees beside the body and settle the upper-body pin.

Common pitfalls

  • Trying the same movement after their feet frame on your hips.
  • Stopping outside the legs while leaving enough distance for them to recover guard.
Connections Reactions and next steps

Where this can lead

  • Side control · In control

The hook clears, you draw yourself past both legs, and your knees and upper-body control close the distance into the pin.
